Hearing Aids – What will people say?

I am Dr. Rajive Bhatia, an ENT surgeon by profession with a special interest in ear microsurgery and hearing disorders. I have been practising in Delhi for the last 27 years.

I feel a great sense of satisfaction after performing a surgery and restoring a patient’s hearing. This can be done for the problems of the eardrum and the bones of hearing-called ossicles. The challenge that I had been facing was with the patients having hearing loss due to problems with their nerves leading to hearing loss.

These patients can only be helped with hearing aids. Whenever I have advised heavy aids to anyone, the person always comes up with certain questions and objections to this advise.

In this blog I would like to answer these questions & give you information that will help you to make a better decision and get a better performance from your hearing aid.

Whenever I advise any patient to use hearing aids, he always asks a certain questions and has certain reservations about using hearing aids. Most common of these questions are

1. Is it essential to wear hearing aids
2. can I wear it in only one ear?
3. Which company in the best
4. which model is the best
5. what type of hearing aid? on the ear or inside the car.
6. What is the cost? Please suggest cheap and best.
7. What is the battery life? Where will I get the replacement battery?
8. Can this have bluetooth and connect to my phone?
9. What about watching Tv?
10. Will I be able to hear very clearly

And the most dreaded question of all-what will people say? Will I become an object of ridicule?

so today we will answer this very question first and get this out of our way. The simple answer is- no one will say anything. Koi Kuch Nahin Kahega. Nobody is bothered.

 And the best Part is people have become used to seeing different kinds of earphones and Bluetooth in different shapes and colors that no one gives a second look if you have something in your ear. People will definitely notice and make fun if you are not hearing properly and are not able to participate in the conversation.

People will definitely make fun of you if you hear bread as thread or wife as knife

The hearing aid is not just an instrument of communication but it also keeps you aware about your environment and happenings around you and keep you safe from accidents.
